Replacements were needed in a hurry, and there was no time for Angela to interview other black candidates, so the Company Manager hired two well-respected people who were not black (one's a Latina, the other a gay white male). Bassett treated them like dirt, called them incompetent, and 2 days before opening fired them both loudly at half-hour before curtain (charges are pending, since they both filed grievances with their unions). There are very few union dressers and hair people who are black in NYC, and most of them ware already working on LION KING. ![]() When the show was preparing to open, she INSISTED that her dresser and her wig/hair person be black, and would not even consider anyone else.
