![]() I think RNS ended up telling his cousin that I was good and so I started doing sessions with him. He was maybe ten or so but he had mad skills and it went well. I filled in on a session with a producer named RNS who was doing a record with a kid named Shyheim. Him and RZA were boys and occasionally RZA would come by and work on some of Shyheim’s stuff, but it was really RNS who was the one I was dealing with at that time. The producer, RNS, was the one that I would work lots of sessions with and he was the one that told me one day, “I’m putting together a group of guys and I’m going to call it the Wu-Tang Clan.” He was the one that really said it to me. The oral history that follows details how a squad of engineers helped shape the sound of one of the most important debut albums in hip-hop history. This vibe of tough production that prioritizes cavernous bass tones and thudding drums over melodic flourishes also inspired the underground, independent rap movement that sprouted up in the mid-’90s, and remains synonymous with classic East Coast hip-hop. As the Wu-Tang MCs rolled out solo albums, the Firehouse engineers found themselves behind the boards on equally rough projects from Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Method Man and Inspectah Deck, plus RZA’s Bobby Digital persona and the Gravediggaz spin-off group. The sonic template laid down on 36 Chambers continued to influence hip-hop throughout the ’90s. During rowdy late-night sessions with the group, Ryman and Bess became “the go-to guys for RZA” as they helped preserve the producer’s hardcore approach to beatmaking, ensuring the tracks possessed an in-your-face impact. “We all learned from each other and competed for the best sounding mixes,” says Ryman. The talents of Carlos Bess and Nolan “Dr. Ethan Ryman, who ended up overseeing the 36 Chambers sessions, arrived after “losing my shirt on a production company business and needing money and experience in the studio, so I was taking everything that came my way.” Ryman was flanked by Dennis Mitchell and Blaise Dupuy, who had both previously worked at a Manhattan studio called the Box before Vazan courted them when it closed. “You’re gonna hear the new style now: this isn’t Rakeem, it’s RZA, the RZArector!”Īdding technical audio support to this new Wu-Tang style was a wave of engineers that had found their way to Firehouse. ![]() “We’re gonna show everyone they were wrong,” Vazan recalls RZA telling him. The deals went sour and they were dropped, but the rejection prompted the formation of the Wu-Tang Clan. RZA and GZA (then recording as Prince Rakeem and the Genius) also cut solo demos at the Firehouse which scored them record deals with Tommy Boy and Cold Chillin’. The spot wound up attracting a hip-hop clientele key late ’80s and early ’90s artists like the Audio Two, MC Lyte, Das-EFX and Guru passed through the vocal booth. He opened the studio in 1988 and sought to drum up business via adverts placed in the Village Voice. ![]() Originally situated in an old fire station on Dean Street in Brooklyn before later moving to Manhattan, it was owned and run by the engineer Yoram Vazan. True to RZA’s vision, the Wu’s lo-fi production was coated with a grimy and grungy patina that would become the clique’s calling card – and this texture was facilitated by a team of up-and-coming engineers working out of a small studio called the Firehouse. As RZA told Hip-Hop Connection magazine back in 2006, “You had Snoop and Dre dominating with this really low and funky but powerful bass sound, so I wanted to show them how New York bass did it, that really gritty bass sound – and make it louder! I wanted things to be tough from the very beginning right to the end.” Dre had formulated in Los Angeles and taken into the mainstream. Released in 1993, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) resonated like a rugged New York City response to the slick and melodic g-funk sound that Dr. The Wu-Tang Clan’s debut album changed the sound of hip-hop. ![]() 1 Trainable 1.1 Town Center 1.2 Barracks 1.3 Archery Range 1.4 Stable 1.5 Siege Workshop 1.6 Monastery 1.7 Market 1.8 Castle 1.9 Dock 2 Untrainable 2.1 Heroes 3 Trivia The following units are available in any regular game. AOE2: Age of Empires 2 (AOK/AOC/AOF/AK/ROR) Unique Ability The Byzantines unique ability is Disrupt & Shock. Also, the addition of the Fire Galley in the Feudal Age gives an early edge to the Byzantine navy since they will benefit from the Fire Ship bonus. On sea maps, Byzantines lack Heated Shot, so they should attempt to win the water with their stronger Fire Ships and complete Dock techs. Byzantines also lack Heated Shot making their towers less effective against ships than they are against land units. Even civilizations with good siege engines, like Celts, Turks, Ethiopians, Khmer and Koreans will have a harder time against a turtling Byzantine settlement. As their Imperial Age upgrade is much cheaper this can give Byzantines an advantage in the game mode " Wonder Race". Welcome, friends, to January 2020 and the first MAJOR update of the new year! Maybe the best teammates for the Byzantines are the Mayans (as their team bonus will make the strong Byzantine walls cheaper), the Vikings, the Japanese, the Malay, or the Sicilians (if playing on water maps), and the Indians (which will add their anti-building bonus to the cheap Byzantine Camels). Cataphracts have a Rate of Fire of 1.8 (1.7 for Elite). For water maps, fishing ships should always get the deep fish first and not the shore fish. As Cataphracts are a big target with low than average conversion resistance civilizations with good monks can convert them such as Slavs, Aztecs, Saracens, Spanish and Burmese. Particularly Elite Cataphracts are effective against almost all units which have an attack bonus against mounted units, such as Camel Riders or Mamelukes, since they have an innate resistance (+12/+16 (Elite) armor) to anti-cavalry attack bonuses. The best possible graphic improvement for aoe 2 HD, textures, buildings, units and more. This is especially useful for civilizations that already have good monks or bonuses for monks, like the Aztecs, the Saracens (especially when they perform the Smush), the Slavs, the Spanish, the Teutons (which will make their monks the best healers in the game, as their monks have also a healing range bonus that was fixed in the Forgotten), the Burmese (whose team bonus reveals the exact locations of relics early on, allowing their teammates to secure them at once), the Lithuanians (combined with their own bonus to produce Monks quicker). Yes, they're expensive, but so is massing and upgrading Cataphracts. The Byzantines' primary strengths are defense and their ability to effectively counter a variety of troop types (infantry, ranged, and cavalry). When a cavalry unit attacks the Disrupted unit, the Shock buff applies and the enemy unit is dealt twice as much damage. ![]() The same outcome also applies to the Cataphract. Despite the fact they have a nearly complete tech tree, they still lack. They also have a faster attacking Fire Ship which helps them defensively in the seas, and makes them slightly better at shore-bombardment in the Castle Age. ![]() The Cataphract is a well-rounded cavalry unit with attack bonus vs infantry, trample damage after researching Logistica and a hidden bonus armor against anti-cavalry attacks. Unique technologies Also, two of their core units â the Spearman line and the Skirmisher â are also used mostly for defending (against cavalry and archers, respectively). ![]() You both participated equally in the conversation. "After spending hours talking, we found somewhere else to go that night because we enjoyed each other so much." 2. "We didn't want to leave each other," she says. Relationship expert Marlena Cole said she knew she was on one of her best first dates when the time they had just wasn't enough. No one is going to drag out a bad date, which means that if you're an hour in and your date is planning which bar the two of you should go to for a nightcap, they're probably enjoying themselves. So while the movie ’50 First Dates’ is not based on any real-life incident, there are many cases around the world that echo the incredible story about love and patience. One of the major signs a first date went well is when the date lasts longer than either of you planned. Steve has penned their life’s story in a book for her that she reads every day to recall. Initially, Camre could only retain memory from minutes ago, but over the years, it has improved so that she can now remember for hours together. In 2012, Camre suffered a cataclysmic stroke during childbirth, which cut off the oxygen supply to her brain for about 5 minutes, and that resulted in her memory, both short-term and long-term, being completely wiped. In another tragic case, Steve Curto (from Michigan) has to convince his wife Camre every day that they are married and have a son together. Her family and boyfriend help her remember every day through a scrapbook that they maintain. Everything in her life up to the present draws a complete blank. But Jenny’s memory loss is complete in the sense that when she wakes up every morning, she does not recall any of her family or friends. Ian has to show her a photo album documenting their wedding day and their life since then to make her believe him.Īlso strikingly similar is the case of Jenny Gisby (from Nottingham, England), who suffers from a combination of Functional Neurological Disorder (FND) and epilepsy. She remembers her husband, Ian, since they met before 1994, but she doesn’t remember getting married in 1997. Now, she wakes up every day believing that it’s 1994 and she is 30-years-old when, in fact, she is 57. Her neurological condition kept steadily declining until she was stuck in 1994. She suffered severe head trauma twice in her life due to road accidents in 19, respectively. Michelle Philpots (from Lincolnshire) is afflicted with anterograde amnesia, which gets worse with time. While this storyline is also not inspired by any real-life incident, there have certainly been cases that are similar. Henry ultimately makes a home movie about his and Lucy’s life together – their relationship, marriage, and kid – which Lucy watches every morning as soon as she wakes up and then takes a few minutes to come to terms with the weird reality of her life before joining her family and spending the day with them. ’50 First Dates’ tells the story of a man who is willing to persevere and employ incredible patience to be with the one he loves, even if it is a woman who cannot remember him. Now that we’ve established that Lucy’s exact condition is fictitious, let’s talk about the romance angle of the movie. This is a very mysterious neurological ailment as memory storage is a brain mechanism that’s not yet well understood. But patients who live with anterograde amnesia cannot even remember things from a few minutes (or hours, in some cases) back and display varying degrees of forgetfulness. In the movie, Lucy is able to retain her memory for one full day, and her memory resets every day when she wakes up. This leads to a heartbreaking inability to recall the recent past, while most memories from before the amnesia-causing event remain intact. An individual suffering from anterograde amnesia is unable to create and store new memories after the event that caused amnesia. The medical condition that plagues Lucy, “Goldfield’s Syndrome,” is also fictional, although the symptoms of the condition are somewhat similar to anterograde amnesia. The plot that revolves around Henry and Lucy’s unconventional romance is purely a work of fiction. No, ’50 First Dates’ is not based on any true story. But is the story of ’50 First Dates’ rooted in reality? Let’s find out. It’s a sweet romantic comedy that will stay with you for years after you watch it. When Henry finds out that Lucy suffers from a neurological condition known as “Goldfield’s Syndrome” which causes her to lose all memories of the previous day, he devises a plan to woo Lucy and win her heart every day like it’s for the first time. |
